THE QURAN
These pillars are based on the Koran, the book in which the structure of the Islamic religion is inscribed. It would have been dictated by Allah to the Prophet Muhammad as a revelation, as occurred in some books of the Bible. The Koran consists of 114 chapters, the suras; and around 6211 verses, the verses. The word 'Quran' means 'recitation'. On the other hand, for Muslims the sacred language is Arabic, which is why prayers, liturgy and studies are recommended in that language. The translations are only used as a teaching tool and to teach those converts to Islam who do not yet speak the Arabic language.
